Industry Payments

Federal law (the Physician Payments Sunshine Act) requires drug and medical-device companies to report anything of value they give to a physician — consulting and speaking fees, research funding, travel, royalties, and even meals. Medicare publishes all of it in a public database called Open Payments. We show it here so you don't have to go looking for it.

Total received (2024)

$72

Payments

Compared to peers

Small

Dr. Samuel Golpanian received $72 across 3 payments in 2024. That is in the lower half for physicians here — totals this size are typically meals at sponsored talks. Most of it was categorised as food and beverage, and the largest single payer was ABBVIE INC..

What this means for your care

  • A disclosed payment is a business relationship, not evidence of wrongdoing, and it says nothing on its own about the quality of your care.
  • Most payments are small. Across the physicians listed on NavMDs, the single most common category is food and beverage at industry-sponsored talks.
  • Larger consulting, speaking or royalty payments mean an ongoing financial relationship with a company whose products your doctor may use or recommend. That is worth knowing about, and it is reasonable to ask about.
  • A fair question to ask: “Do you have a financial relationship with the maker of the implant, filler or device you're recommending — and what alternatives did you consider?”

Questions, Answers, and Information Directly from Dr. Samuel Golpanian

Sourced directly from Dr. Samuel Golpanian's social posts and replies.

What is fibrosis after a BBL, and why are lymphatic massages important for recovery?
Fibrosis is when fat hardens after a BBL. Lymphatic massages are crucial for reducing swelling, minimizing fibrosis, and helping with pain. They can help soften hardened tissue, prevent fibrosis in some cases, and treat it in others, ultimately maximizing results and improving the healing process. Dr. Golpanian recommends at least 10 lymphatic massages, ideally three to four times a week during the first week, then trailing off. It's important to factor these into your post-surgery journey.
What are the potential complications of aggressive liposuction?
Aggressive liposuction performed too close to the skin can cause contour irregularities like 'cobblestone' divots, increased skin laxity or looseness, and if the cannula burns the skin, hyperpigmentation, discoloration, and hardness of the skin.
How is a tummy tuck procedure performed?
A tummy tuck involves elevating a flap of skin and fat off the underlying muscle, pulling it down, and removing the excess skin to smooth out the abdominal area.
Why is it important to choose a Board Certified plastic surgeon?
Patients should research their surgeon to ensure they are Board Certified, which indicates a high level of training and expertise in plastic surgery.
Which areas are included in Dr. Golpanian's Lipo 360 procedure?
Dr. Golpanian's Lipo 360 procedure covers eight areas: the abdominal area, the pubic or mons area, the waist or flanks, the upper back, the middle back, the bra rolls, the hip rolls, and the presacral area. Arms and thighs are not included in this specific Lipo 360 procedure.
How should I massage my breast implants after surgery, and why is it important?
Breast implant massaging is an important part of post-operative recovery, helping with implant settling and preventing capsular contracture. For the right breast, hold the nipple with your left hand, push down incrementally with your right hand until pressure is felt at the bottom. Repeat this motion from the side pressing into the middle, from the middle pressing out to the side, and from above pressing from below. Repeat this technique on the opposite breast. Perform these massages on each breast three times a day for three minutes each for positive results.
Why are foam pieces used after abdominal liposuction?
Foam pieces are used around the abdominal area after liposuction to help the treated areas scar down smoothly and tightly against the underlying muscle fascia.
What is Qwo cellulite treatment and what can I expect?
Qwo is a new FDA-approved prescription medication composed of collagenase, an enzyme that breaks down collagen within cellulite-causing fibrocepta. It is administered via subcutaneous injection directly into the fat. Patients can expect no downtime, with the most common side effect being bruising that typically resolves within one to two weeks. The treatment results in significantly noticeable improvements.
What are the different buttock shapes and how do they relate to a Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL)?
There are four basic buttock shapes: H, V, O, and A (heart). The H shape is the most common. Studies suggest the heart or A shape is considered the most attractive. The inverted (V) buttock shape is generally the most difficult to correct during a Brazilian butt lift.
What are common sensations and changes to expect during breast augmentation recovery?
Recovery after breast augmentation is generally easy. Patients will experience a sensation of tightness across their chest. Implants may initially feel heavy and hard, like bricks, but they will soften over time. They will also sit high up on the chest initially but will settle lower and drop within a few months.
What is a 'muffin top,' how is it treated, and what happens if I gain weight after liposuction or BBL?
A 'muffin top' refers to excess fat in the lower abdominal or hip roll area above the hips, which is often resistant to diet and exercise alone. Liposuction is a good option for removing these fat deposits. If you gain weight after liposuction or a BBL due to excess caloric intake, both the liposuctioned areas (where fat cells were removed) and fat-grafted areas (where new fat cells were added) will still gain weight as existing fat cells enlarge. However, the liposuctioned areas will gain slightly less weight than other areas.
