What are the common risks and recovery expectations for blepharoplasty?
Common risks include bleeding and bruising, which typically last one to two weeks and result from cutting small capillaries. Infections are very rare and usually treatable with antibiotics. Poor healing or scarring is also a risk, though scars are often hidden behind the eyelid or within the eyelid crease. While loss of vision is a common concern, Dr. Phelps has never had a patient permanently lose vision from blepharoplasty. Patients may experience blurry vision during healing due to ointments. In 95% of cases, only one procedure is needed, but 5% may require a minor readjustment (e.g., an additional stitch) three to six months later after full healing.
