In Dr. Matthew D. Goodwin's own words

How Dr. Matthew D. Goodwin describes their own approach, from their Instagram posts. Each statement links to the original.

Approach

  • I wanna do something that looks good, in my opinion, because I have had some patients say, this is what I really want. And when I was first on, I've tried doing some of them and most of the time I regretted it
  • And obviously in everything we do, we're trying to minimize scars, but sometimes you can't achieve what our main goals are without having those scars
  • I will not put in just any size a patient wants. I will not do something that I think is going to deform your body

Technique

  • We typically bring the nipple up higher onto the breast and tighten up the breast envelope
  • We only really need a scar in the external part of the breast, which is the skin, and we try to hide those scars in areas that are cosmetically acceptable
  • Definitely if there's little asymmetries to the face and then in the cheeks to try and plump up the cheeks, sometimes some areas of depression in the lower part of the temporal areas

Consultation

  • And so I do think it's helpful for patients to really think about how they want their breasts to appear on their body
  • It's helpful to look at pictures of breasts that you want to emulate and bring that for a consultation
  • During consultations, Dr. Matthew D. Goodwin, MD, ensures patients understand surgical risks, discusses how to avoid them, and explains their likelihood.

Recovery guidance

  • So then obviously we're going to do aggressive scar management to try and make those scars as nice as possible, and hope to have them fade nicely as you recover

What is the difference between a breast lift and a breast reduction?
A breast lift (mastopexy) primarily focuses on elevating and reshaping sagging breasts without significantly altering their size. Industry Payments

Federal law (the Physician Payments Sunshine Act) requires drug and medical-device companies to report anything of value they give to a physician — consulting and speaking fees, research funding, travel, royalties, and even meals. Medicare publishes all of it in a public database called Open Payments. We show it here so you don't have to go looking for it.

Total received (2024)

$1,728

Payments

21

Compared to peers

Moderate

Dr. Matthew D. Goodwin received $1,728 across 21 payments in 2024. That is higher than about 71% of the physicians here who received any industry payment. Most of it was categorised as food and beverage, and the largest single payer was SPINEART USA INC.

What this means for your care

  • A disclosed payment is a business relationship, not evidence of wrongdoing, and it says nothing on its own about the quality of your care.
  • Most payments are small. Across the physicians listed on NavMDs, the single most common category is food and beverage at industry-sponsored talks.
  • Larger consulting, speaking or royalty payments mean an ongoing financial relationship with a company whose products your doctor may use or recommend. That is worth knowing about, and it is reasonable to ask about.
  • A fair question to ask: “Do you have a financial relationship with the maker of the implant, filler or device you're recommending — and what alternatives did you consider?”
