What are the eligibility, contraindications, and risks associated with JUVÉDERM® fillers?
The JUVÉDERM® Collection of Fillers is for adults over 21. It is not recommended for people with a history of severe allergic reactions or allergies to any of its ingredients, including lidocaine. Patients should inform their doctor if they have a history of scarring or are taking medicines that decrease immune response or prolong bleeding, as these can increase risks. Common side effects include injection-site redness, swelling, pain, tenderness, firmness, lumps, bumps, bruising, discoloration, and itching. There is a rare, but serious, risk of unintentional injection into a blood vessel, which can lead to vision abnormalities, blindness, stroke, temporary scabs, or permanent scarring. A general risk of infection exists with all skin injection procedures, and the effectiveness of removal of any dermal filler has not been studied.
