Approach

- I've been using a lot for my dry eye patients who have a little bit of a neurotrophic keratitis and it just brings a lot of healing

- Dr. Justin Hellman primarily uses this treatment for dry eye patients.
Technique
- So basically we're using a special amniotic membrane we put on the eye and it brings healing to the eye
- And all we're going to do is just to ensure that that lens stays on for at least 24 hours, we just put a little piece of tape on the eye like this
- And once we test and see that there is a little bit of nerve damage to the eye, that is causing some of their dry eyes
Technology
- We have a basically a contact lens, as you can see here, and the amniotic membrane is inside here
- It stimulates stem cell production and it sends out a healing signal to the body to come in and just heal what needs to be fixed
Recovery guidance
- That contact lens will still sit on the eye, it will either pop out on its own or it will dissolve. Either way is fine
- After 24 hours you get to take the piece of tape off and let the eye just do what it needs to do
Results
- So it's really fantastic for my dry eye patients who have had dry eyes for a long time
- But also, because there's some healing to the ocular surface, I'm getting an amazing improvement with what we call visual acuity
