In Dr. Geoffrey Kwitko's own words

How Dr. Geoffrey Kwitko describes their own approach, from their Instagram posts. Each statement links to the original.

Approach

  • Immediately upon evaluating the patient, I suspected he had temporal arteritis, which is a vasculitis which can cause sudden loss of vision in both eyes and scopes
  • All depends on the patient. All depends on the tone of the skin and the type of skin that the patient has

Specialization

  • Dr. Geoffrey Kwitko is the most experienced eyelid reconstruction surgeon in Tampa.
  • Specializes in neuro-ophthalmic surgery.
  • Specializes in orbital surgery.

Technique

  • Some patients, however, have so much excess skin that we actually have to make an incision on the outside of the lid, remove the skin, which is called the skin pinch
  • We started the patient on medication immediately, got the biopsy, which proved he had temporal arteritis, and basically saved this patient's vision
  • Laser-assisted is where we do a transconjunctival incision from the inside of the eyelid, take the fat out, and then tighten the skin with a laser

Consultation

  • I will then come and say hello to you and we will go over the procedure, make sure everybody is on the same page, make sure what you want is what we're going to do

Safety

  • Our board certified anesthesiologist will come and talk to you and make sure that everything is as it should be, make sure that there's no risks, safety is our primary concern

Results

  • This alleviates any crepiness of the skin and gives us a nice smooth result
  • The practice achieves perfect natural blepharoplasty results.

When should I see a fellowship-trained neuro-ophthalmologist?
Patients experiencing symptoms such as a neuro-ophthalmic issue, double vision, loss of vision, pain, or headaches are advised to see a fellowship-trained neuro-ophthalmologist. Doing so could potentially save a patient's life, and patients should avoid seeing a general doctor or one they were 'dumped on' for these specific issues.
What should patients look for in a surgeon for lower eyelid blepharoplasty?
Patients should ensure their surgeon is an expert in all techniques, as surgical approaches for lower eyelid blepharoplasty should not be 'one size fits all'.

Industry Payments

Federal law (the Physician Payments Sunshine Act) requires drug and medical-device companies to report anything of value they give to a physician — consulting and speaking fees, research funding, travel, royalties, and even meals. Medicare publishes all of it in a public database called Open Payments. We show it here so you don't have to go looking for it.

Total received (2024)

$247

Payments

2

Compared to peers

Small

Dr. Geoffrey Kwitko received $247 across 2 payments in 2024. That is in the lower half for physicians here — totals this size are typically meals at sponsored talks. Most of it was categorised as food and beverage, and the largest single payer was Harrow Eye, LLC.

What this means for your care

  • A disclosed payment is a business relationship, not evidence of wrongdoing, and it says nothing on its own about the quality of your care.
  • Most payments are small. Across the physicians listed on NavMDs, the single most common category is food and beverage at industry-sponsored talks.
  • Larger consulting, speaking or royalty payments mean an ongoing financial relationship with a company whose products your doctor may use or recommend. That is worth knowing about, and it is reasonable to ask about.
  • A fair question to ask: “Do you have a financial relationship with the maker of the implant, filler or device you're recommending — and what alternatives did you consider?”
