Questions, Answers, and Information Directly from Dr. Bill Kortesis

Sourced directly from Dr. Bill Kortesis's social posts and replies.

What is AlloClae?
AlloClae is a non-surgical, injectable fat treatment made from purified human donor cells. It's essentially off-the-shelf fat that can be used for plumping the face, breast, or body. It does not require liposuction or surgical intervention and can address skin texture, wrinkles, cellulite, and body contouring. Each syringe contains about 12.5 cc's, a larger volume than similar products. Procedures can be performed awake under local anesthesia.
What is Aveli?
Aveli is an FDA-cleared treatment that targets dimples of the buttocks and thighs.
What are the benefits of using mesh in breast surgery?
Mesh can provide additive support in breast surgery, especially for patients with loose breast tissue. It can prevent smooth implants from sliding down the chest wall and helps ensure surgical results last longer. Mesh placement is permanent. It also allows for a more natural look and feel and can lead to a smoother recovery process.
What is involved in rhinoplasty?
Rhinoplasty reshapes the nose and its appearance to achieve the patient's aesthetic goals and preserve or improve nasal function. Digital imaging is used during consultations to understand the patient's goals. The doctor aims for a harmonious facial balance and a natural, elegant appearance. Septoplasty is often performed during rhinoplasty to address breathing difficulties. Sutures, a cast, and splints may be placed after the procedure and are removed after about one week. Patients should expect about one week of downtime, bruising, and swelling.
What should patients know about facial fat grafting?
Facial fat grafting is a common procedure, especially during eyelid surgery or facelifts. It provides volume and stem cell-rich components that boost the skin. A percentage of the grafted fat goes away in the first three to six months, varying by patient. After that, the remaining fat settles and stays with the patient long-term.
Why is a facelift sometimes recommended with a neck lift?
A neck lift alone is not as effective as a combined facelift and neck lift. Lifting the face also lifts the neck to some extent, as the structures of the face and neck move together. The need for a combined procedure depends on skin quality, age, jowling severity, and neck condition. The limitations of a neck lift alone are discussed with patients during consultations.
What are the differences between Botox and Dysport?
Neither Dysport nor Botox is inherently better; they are both botulinum toxin type A products. Dysport has complexing proteins that make it spread or diffuse more than Botox, making it better for larger areas like forehead lines, frown lines, and masseters. Botox is more precise and great for bunny lines, crow's feet, and lip flips.
What factors affect how long Botox lasts?
Botox duration depends on the individual. Frequent gym-goers, marathon runners, and sauna users may experience shorter Botox duration. A healthy diet and taking a zinc supplement (in addition to a multivitamin) may make Botox last longer. Increased Botox dosage can lead to longer-lasting results. If Botox is not lasting as long as desired, the dosage can be increased.
