Industry Payments

Federal law (the Physician Payments Sunshine Act) requires drug and medical-device companies to report anything of value they give to a physician — consulting and speaking fees, research funding, travel, royalties, and even meals. Medicare publishes all of it in a public database called Open Payments. We show it here so you don't have to go looking for it.

Compared to peers

Small

Dr. Alexes Hazen received $82 across 2 payments in 2024. That is in the lower half for physicians here — totals this size are typically meals at sponsored talks. Most of it was categorised as food and beverage, and the largest single payer was TELA Bio, Inc..

What this means for your care

  • A disclosed payment is a business relationship, not evidence of wrongdoing, and it says nothing on its own about the quality of your care.
  • Most payments are small. Across the physicians listed on NavMDs, the single most common category is food and beverage at industry-sponsored talks.
  • Larger consulting, speaking or royalty payments mean an ongoing financial relationship with a company whose products your doctor may use or recommend. That is worth knowing about, and it is reasonable to ask about.
  • A fair question to ask: “Do you have a financial relationship with the maker of the implant, filler or device you're recommending — and what alternatives did you consider?”

Questions, Answers, and Information Directly from Dr. Alexes Hazen

Sourced directly from Dr. Alexes Hazen's social posts and replies.

What hair restoration techniques does Dr. Hazen use?
Dr. Hazen uses Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) with the NEO-Graft Technology, transferring single hair follicles to recreate strong natural growth. The procedure leaves no scars, sutures, or stitches. Baby hairs will begin sprouting and growing 3-4 months after the procedure.
What can I expect during hair transplant recovery?
According to Dr. Hazen, recovery from a hair transplant involves some scabbing but not a lot of redness, and swelling that has almost completely gone by day five. Patients can return to work around day five. Honey can be used during the day, and a scarf can be tied around the head.
What should I know about scar healing?
A scar takes about six weeks to fully heal to its maximal tensile strength and about a year to fully mature. The skin surrounding a healing scar should be supple and lubricated. Scar gel, scar cream, or moisturizer is recommended. Massaging a scar and using scar gel or scar cream can soften scars for up to a year after it heals.
What breast cancer screening is needed after top surgery?
Anyone with breast tissue needs to be screened for breast cancer, regardless of gender identity. A physical exam should be performed every year. If a lump or bump is noticed after top surgery, a breast surgeon should be consulted, and an ultrasound would likely be prompted. After a real mastectomy, mammograms are no longer needed.
What is Dr. Hazen's approach to wellness?
Dr. Hazen recommends making small, sustainable changes to your wellness routine. Drastic changes to diet, exercise, alcohol consumption, and smoking cessation are unsustainable. Taking inventory of things you want to improve in terms of your health is a good first step. Sleeping five more minutes a day or eliminating one bad thing from your diet can improve overall health.
How does Dr. Hazen ensure patient comfort during treatments?
Dr. Hazen's team applies numbing cream to ensure optimal comfort during treatments. She also states that any discomfort felt during the treatment is often very tolerable and that she can always make adjustments.
