Medical Tourism Effect
An increasing number of patients travel for surgery. Miami has the highest concentration of mommy makeover specialists. Dallas/Houston draw from the Midwest. LA attracts from the Pacific Northwest and Asia.
The Suburban Shift
Top surgeons are moving from downtown to suburban locations closer to their patient base. Dallas suburbs (Plano, Frisco), Atlanta suburbs (Buckhead), Houston suburbs (The Woodlands) — reducing geographic barriers.

Four takeaways

1
California punches way above its weight.
12% of population, 24-41% of procedures. The most plastic surgery residency programs, most board-certified surgeons, and most established cosmetic surgery culture.
2
Florida is the fastest-growing major market.
South Atlantic liposuction share surged from 21% (2005) to 35% (2024). No state income tax, year-round warm climate, and medical tourism infrastructure drive growth.
3
The Northeast is declining across the board.
From augmentation (15% to 11%) to liposuction (16% to 9%), the Northeast's share is shrinking. Population migration, higher costs, and cultural differences all contribute.
4
High-volume markets produce better outcomes.
If you live in CA, FL, or TX, you have the most surgeon options and competitive pricing. Patients in the Northeast or Midwest may benefit from traveling to high-volume markets.
